A hearty dish combining sautéed cabbage and soft dumplings, perfect for comfort food lovers.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 medium head Cabbage, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Milk
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by melting the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Once melted, add the chopped onions and sauté until they become soft and translucent.
  2. Add the chopped cabbage to the pot, seasoning with salt and pepper. Stir well and cook until the cabbage is tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. While the cabbage is cooking, in a separate mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing to ensure the dumplings are light and fluffy.
  5. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Using a spoon, carefully drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the boiling water. Allow the dumplings to cook until they rise to the surface, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove the dumplings from the water and set them aside on a plate. Serve them warm with the sautéed cabbage mixture on top.

Notes

Cook dumplings until they rise for best texture. For a healthier option, try using whole wheat flour.
