Instructions
- Mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a large bowl until blended.
- Shape the mixture into an even layer in a greased baking dish.
- Pre-bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes.
- Boil the potatoes in salted water for 15 minutes until fork-tender.
- Mash the potatoes with butter, milk, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until creamy.
- Layer the mashed potatoes evenly over the pre-baked meatloaf.
- Sprinkle extra cheddar cheese on top, then bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes.
- Broil for 2-3 minutes for a crispy top if desired.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use lean ground beef for the best texture. Let the meatloaf rest after pre-baking to keep it tender.
