- 12 large cabbage leaves
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and blanch the cabbage leaves for 2-3 minutes until tender.
- Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in a skillet until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Combine the cooked rice, Italian sausage, ground beef, sautéed onions, and garlic in a mixing bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
- Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center, fold over the sides, and roll tightly.
- Place the rolls seam-side down in a baking dish and pour tomato sauce over them to cover completely.
- Bake for about 45 minutes until heated through and flavors meld beautifully. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Blanching the cabbage leaves is crucial for easy rolling. For a lighter option, consider using ground turkey instead of Italian sausage.
