  • 12 large cabbage leaves
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and blanch the cabbage leaves for 2-3 minutes until tender.
  3. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in a skillet until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Combine the cooked rice, Italian sausage, ground beef, sautéed onions, and garlic in a mixing bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center, fold over the sides, and roll tightly.
  6. Place the rolls seam-side down in a baking dish and pour tomato sauce over them to cover completely.
  7. Bake for about 45 minutes until heated through and flavors meld beautifully. Serve warm and enjoy!

Blanching the cabbage leaves is crucial for easy rolling. For a lighter option, consider using ground turkey instead of Italian sausage.
