Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup crunchy topping (e.g., crushed candy bars, nuts, or toffee)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract; stir until combined.
- Gradually mix in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool for 10 minutes, then poke holes in each cake and drizzle sweetened condensed milk over them.
- Top with your chosen crunchy topping before serving.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, substitute eggs with flaxseed meal or banana and use almond or soy milk. You can also use crushed nuts or any candy bar for the topping.
