Experience the savory and satisfying joy of Spam Rice Balls – a delightful treat combining the rich flavor of Spam with sticky sushi rice wrapped in a crispy seaweed exterior.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Sushi Rice
  • 1 can Spam
  • 3 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Mirin (optional)
  • Nori Sheets (as needed)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Water (for cooking rice)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then cook according to package instructions. Season with salt and allow to cool slightly.
  2. Slice the Spam into rectangles about ¼ inch thick, then cook in a skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side until crispy. Add soy sauce and mirin for caramelization.
  3. Take a palm-sized portion of rice, mold it into a triangle, place a slice of Spam in the center, and encase it within the rice. Wrap with nori and repeat for remaining rice and Spam.
  4. Serve immediately while warm or store in bento boxes for later.

Notes

Feel free to swap traditional sushi rice for brown rice for added fiber or substitute Spam with marinated tofu for a vegetarian option.
