Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking dish with soft butter.
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a larger bowl, cream the granulated sugar and softened butter until fluffy. Add the egg, buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla extract, blending until smooth.
- Gradually incorporate the dry mix into the wet mixture.
- Roll out the dough onto a floured surface, spread softened butter over it, and sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Carefully roll the dough into a log shape and slice into individual rolls. Place them in the greased baking dish.
- Bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden and aromatic. Let cool slightly before frosting with cream cheese and powdered sugar mixture.
Notes
For a vegan-friendly version, substitute coconut oil or applesauce for butter. Add optional white chocolate chips or walnuts to the filling for extra flavor.
