- 1/2 cup Water
- 1 teaspoon Peppermint Extract
- 1/4 teaspoon Red Food Coloring (optional)
- Powdered Sugar for Dusting, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Your Workspace: Clean a flat surface or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cook the Sugar Mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Stir gently over medium heat until it boils. Refrain from stirring and let it simmer until it reaches 250°F (121°C).
- Add Flavor and Color: Once cooled slightly, remove from heat and add peppermint extract and food coloring. Let it cool until safe to handle.
- Shape the Candies: Dust hands and surface with powdered sugar. Roll the mixture into ropes and cut into 1-inch pieces. Dust with additional powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
- Set the Candies: Place on lined surface and let set for at least 2 hours until hardened.
Notes
If you’re looking for vegan options, substitute corn syrup with maple syrup or brown rice syrup. Feel free to experiment with other flavor extracts.
