Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp mixed dried herbs (thyme, oregano, rosemary)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Add the yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and mixed herbs. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm area for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and shape it into a round bowl, transferring it onto a lined baking sheet.
- Brush the dough with an egg wash and make a few slits on top to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving with your favorite soup or dip. Enjoy!
Notes
For a gluten-free option, replace all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend. Consider adding cheese or sun-dried tomatoes for variations.
