  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 7 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Fruits (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the egg whites and cream of tartar. Whip them together until soft peaks begin to form, then gradually add sugar while continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
  3. Gently fold in the flour until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into an ungreased angel food cake pan and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Cool upside down on a rack.
  5. For the chocolate lava filling, heat heavy cream until simmering, then stir in chocolate chips until smooth. Create a well in the cooled cake and pour in the warm chocolate filling.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh fruit, if desired.

Notes

This cake is best served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for freshness.
